For me, the ideal project is one that involves a creative challenge but also requires precision and linguistic accuracy. Getting the essence just right while maintaining fidelity to the source text. Because a good translation is one that nobody can tell is a translation.<\/p>\n

The craziest assignment<\/h4>\n

The really quirky ones are confidential (naturally) but I’ve had numerous assignments that could be classified as fun and even heart-warming. For example, a few years ago I was contacted by a Canadian family with Danish ancestors. They had found a rusty coffee can full of 100-year-old letters from Denmark. I worked from photocopies to decipher the letters and we were able to discover many fascinating details about the family who had sent it. That was a lovely project, and extremely fulfilling.<\/p>\n

My speciality<\/h4>\n

With a diverse educational background in information studies, history and fashion, I work in a variety of fields with a broad focus. That said, I tend to gravitate towards projects involving travel, fashion, food and culture. Or perhaps – after so many years in the field – they gravitate towards me.<\/p>\n

A good assignment is an assignment with a clear and well-written text. A translator will always appreciate repetition and consistent use of terms, especially when we need to translate a lot of words in a short period of time.<\/p>\n

The craziest assignment<\/h4>\n

As a translator, you sometimes come across assignments that challenge your existing knowledge of the field. Texts with specific technical terms requiring highly specialised knowledge.<\/p>\n

The real art is to acquire so much knowledge about a subject that it’s possible to translate the text perfectly naturally into the target language. It’s great if you can find professionals who know even more about the subject to ask for advice. Most recently, I actually asked my friend’s grandfather for help so I could finish a quality translation!<\/p>\n

My speciality<\/h4>\n

During my time as a translator, I’ve translated many websites and a great deal of marketing material – especially within the fashion, beauty, toy and jewellery industries. This is where I feel most at home, and I love writing sharp, witty texts that sometimes deviate quite a bit from the source text in order to be most effective for the target culture.<\/p>\n

The better I can relate to a text, and the more I know about its context, the more engaging the assignment is to me – simply because that makes it easier to find the best solutions for the translation. When you also have the privilege to work with like-minded people, it’s even more fun and the results are even better!<\/p>\n

To be completely honest, working as a translator isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. Yet when we have an opportunity to work with less conventional texts, meaning that we can – and indeed must – slip into unusual roles, it definitely becomes more exciting and challenging in a completely different way.<\/p>\n

My speciality<\/h4>\nSince finishing my language and translation studies, I’ve developed professionally through my work as a language teacher, as well as in administrative roles within the steel and tool industry, at
\ntax advisory and auditing firms, and in the field of tourism, where I also had the pleasure of \u200bworking as a tour guide.
\nI have a general interest in language and culture, as well as media and technology, so my dream job as a translator, combined with my insatiable curiosity, presents a continuing opportunity for me to expand into new fields.\n\t\t
